Dr. Brian Cohen

What prompted you to become an orthopaedics physician?

I always knew I wanted to be "a mechanic of the body." I had a very strong mentor in my chief resident during my general surgery rotation. The operating room during general surgery cases was always quiet and respectful. Then I remember walking into the operating room during an orthopaedic surgical case – the radio was on and the chief resident was singing "Whoomp There It Is." They just seemed to be having more fun doing their job.

If you hadn't become a physician, what would you be doing?

My dream was always to be an auto mechanic. Growing up I had a 1976 Triumph TR6 convertible. I think I spent more time working under the hood then I did driving that car!

In your free time, what are your favorite activities?

My favorite activities during my free time are movies and reading. I enjoy espionage type novels. Some of my favorite authors include Vince Flynn, Andrew Britton, Robert Ludlum. I also enjoy weight training and running, which I try to do before work every day.

What does the Adena promise mean to you?

The Adena promise, to me, is a commitment I make on a daily basis to deliver the best patient care I possibly can. Always. It’s about being the best doctor I can be and creating a work environment that’s special for my patients and my co-workers.

Dr. Brian Tscholl

What prompted you to become an orthopaedics physician?

I enjoy the opportunity to fix things, make a difference and, sometimes, save lives. One time, I was flown on a helicopter to rescue a truck driver who had his leg pinned between a pole and his overturned rig. We had to do an immediate field amputation to save his life. My job isn’t always that dramatic, but I know every procedure I perform can have significant impact in the life of a patient.

If you hadn't become a physician, what would you be doing?

I think it would be fun to be a high-rise window washer. There’s something exciting about doing a job while being up that high.

In your free time, what are your favorite activities?

I like to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle. Running is my favorite way to do that. It’s a great way to get outside and it gives me time to think.

What does the Adena promise mean to you?

To me, it’s simple. The Adena promise is the promise we make to care for all patients. To go above and beyond and treat everyone in our care like family.

Dr. W. Bradley Strauch

What prompted you to become an orthopaedics physician?

I was not interested in performing surgeries, but still wanted to treat people with musculoskeletal injuries/problems. It's a great feeling to help an athlete overcome an injury and get back in the game – back to doing something they love.

If you hadn't become a physician, what would you be doing?

I’ve always had a fascination with old buildings. So if I wasn’t a physician, I would probably be restoring old homes and buildings. I like working with my hands and the idea that I would be helping preserve that history.

In your free time, what are your favorite activities?

Spending time with my family is always my top priority. I also make an effort to stay active, so I run and hike quite a bit. When I’m not doing something outside, I enjoy reading.

What does the Adena promise mean to you?

It is a constant reminder to me to do the best job that I can for patients and athletes. Truthfully, they expect nothing less from their physician.

Dr. Karen Evans

What prompted you to become an orthopaedics physician?

I chose physiatry as my profession because you can see improvement in patients who have sustained debilitating injuries. I once treated a boy who sustained a severe traumatic brain injury who made a complete recovery. I enjoy being able to help people lead productive lives and overcome their disabilities.

If you hadn't become a physician, what would you be doing?

I love animals. I would probably be a veterinarian right now if I hadn’t become a physician.

In your free time, what are your favorite activities?

I enjoy some of the simpler things in life. I’m happy when I can settle down with a good book. I stay healthy by running with my dog.

What does the Adena promise mean to you?

The Adena promise reminds me that I’m here to provide quality care for all our patients. I like being in an environment where providing the best personal care is encouraged.

Dr. Anthony Lattavo

What prompted you to become an orthopaedics physician?

I have a strong desire to help people overcome injuries. When I’m able to help an athlete return to the game or help a patient return to everyday activities, I get a deep sense of satisfaction. I really feel like I’m making a difference.

If you hadn't become a physician, what would you be doing?

I actually have a degree in accounting. If I hadn’t followed my passion to become a medical professional, I guess I’d be an accountant somewhere right now.

In your free time, what are your favorite activities?

I like being outside and being active. So I spend a lot of my free time riding my bike or running. I think about how I would feel if I was unable to do those things, and it fuels my desire to help my patients.

What does the Adena promise mean to you?

I’m committed to doing my best every day. The Adena promise reminds me that I’m doing what I do to help my patients live their lives and achieve their goals.
